A grim commemoration

What’s on my mind? Today, January 25th marks one year since the first coronavirus case was confirmed in Canada. Canada’s patient zero was a man in his 50s who had arrived in Toronto from Wuhan, China. Since that day, Canada and the world has come a long way, though we unequivocally had no idea how profoundly our lives would change.

As of yesterday, 747,383 Canadians have been infected with COVID-19 and 19,094 lives lost. We’ve gone from uncertainty to more understanding of the virus, yet, there appears to be a lack of political will to curtail the outbreaks and deaths in long-term care homes. And that is something that will taint our society and our country’s reputation long after COVID-19 is gone.
