Justin Trudeau sworn in as Canada’s 23rd prime minister

At 43, Justin Trudeau has been sworn in as Canada’s 23rd prime minister at Rideau Hall. He then named his mixed cabinet which includes fresh faces and political veterans, male (15) and female (15).

The Cabinet

  • Ralph Goodale – Minister of Public Safety & Emergency Preparedness – Bill C-51 becomes his worry
  • Carolyn Bennett – Minister of Indigenous and Northern Affairs
  • Lawrence Macauley – Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food
  • Jody Wilson-Raybould – Minister of Justice & The Attorney General of Canada (former provincial Crown   prosecutor) the first First Nations woman to serve in this prestigious ministry.
  • Stephane Dion – Minister of Foreign Affairs
  • Judy Foote – Minister of Public Services & Procurement
  • John McCallum – Minister of Immigration, Refugees & Citizenship (25, 000 Syrian refugees on his watch)
  • Chrystia Freeland – Minister of International Trade (Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) may be her first job)

  • Jane Philpott – Minister of Health (a family doctor and first time MP)
  • Dominic Leblanc – Leader of Government in the House of Commons
