Dec 6 Montreal's Ecole polytechnique massacre

December 6 is Canada’s National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against women, a day commemorating the anniversary of the 1989 École Polytechnique massacre, also known as the Montreal massacre. On that day, an armed man walked into an engineering class, deliberately targeting and murdering 14 women. Several others were also injured.

There are memorials across the country to commemorate the day and mourn women killed this year by their intimate partners and femicide. It’s also a day to reaffirm a commitment to end violence against women.

Over the years, the white rose has become the symbol of Polytechnique Montréal’s commemorative activities.
