Anglican Church of Canada rejects same-sex marriage by one vote
The Anglican Church of Canada has voted against authorizing same-sex marriages, after nearly a week of passionate debate.
More than 200 delegates at the triennial conference of the country’s third-largest church voted on the proposal, after more than 60 speakers made their points.
In order for the resolution to pass, it needed two-thirds support from all three of the church’s orders – laypeople, clergy and bishops.
Bishops and laypeople met that threshold, but the clergy missed it by a single vote.
