CanKen Road Race Registration Launched

CanKen Sports Club is pleased to announce the launch of the inaugural CanKen Road Race that will be held at the Mississauga Valley Park, in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada on Sunday September 18, 2016.

The road race will feature 5k run and 5k charity walk as well as 1k Kids Dash. Participants in the 1k Kids Dash must be between 7 – 12 years old and authorized by a parent/guardian. Plans are in place to add 10k and Half Marathon races in 2017, and eventually a Marathon in the coming years.

Registration process has officially kicked off through the website www.cankenroadrace.com.

The 5k registration fee is C$50 per participant for early registration before July 31st 2016 and C$55 afterwards. This fee includes the cost of a race t-shirt and bib number with a tag. Children registration fee is C$25 for the 1k Kids Dash.

This year’s event will honor Mama Sarah Obama, the 95 years old paternal grandmother of US President Barack Obama. The senior Obama will also participate in the 5k Charity walk in support of Canadian Children Wellness through Trillium Health Partners. Trillium Health Partners is a three-hospital group comprising the Credit Valley Hospital, Mississauga Hospital, and Queensway Health Centre serving the diverse communities in the Greater Toronto Area.

The road race will be happening the weekend after the Canada Kenya EXPO that will also take place in Mississauga from 13th – 15 September 2016. Kenyan businesses are expected to participate in these two events.

This will be the first road race organized and managed by Kenyans abroad. The awards will be categorized by various age groups. The 5k run winners will receive a cumulative cash prize package of C$ 14,000 in both men and women categories.

CanKen Sports Club is a non-profit organization registered in Canada with main focus in nurturing and managing sports talent. It also aims at organizing sports events for community initiatives and humanitarian causes in Canada as well as training and coaching in middle and long distance running.

CanKen is proud of the partnership with the Host City of Mississauga in this historic event, which is a road race that is the first of its kind anywhere.
