Free entry for Kenya-Ethiopia Sunday Kasarani match
Stars have continued to perform well in the AFCON matches
Kenyans will be allowed free entry into Kasarani Stadium for the Harambee Stars encounter with Ethiopia on Sunday.
Sports Cabinet Secretary Rashid Echesa said: “Entry at Safaricom Stadium Kasarani will be free to allow Kenyans cheer their team to victory.”
“A win for Harambee Stars in this match will take the team to the brink of qualifying for AFCON in Cameroon. I wish our team all the best,” he said.
In a statement on Thursday, Echesa said the Stars have continued to perform well in the AFCON matches. The national football team beat Ghana and drew with Ethiopia.
“In this respect, the government has stepped up support for the team to ensure that Kenya qualifies for the AFCON 2019 championship to be held in Cameroon,” he said.
“It is important that as patriotic Kenyans it is our duty to support the team unreservedly.”
Last week, Football Kenya Federation president Nick Mwendwa appealed for Sh18 million from the government and well-wishers ahead of the qualifying matches against Ethiopia on October 10 and 14.
The federation tabled a Sh25 million budget to the Ministry of Sports but received only Sh7.3 million.
The dry coffers, engineered by the absence of a sponsor, has seen the availability of players who ply their trades abroad remain uncertain for the matches.
Worse still, head coach Sebastien Migne has served notice to have his three-month salary arrears paid before October 15.
