Invite: 2023 International Women’s Day Workshop and Dinner

Saturday, March 11, 2023, 4:00 pm to 11:00 pm EST

Kenyan Canadian Association is pleased to invite you to the International Women’s Day workshop & celebration dinner on Saturday, March 11, 2023, from 4:00 pm – 11:00 pm EST (Toronto Time) at Queen’s Manor Event Centre at 2 Auction Lane, Brampton ON L6T5V8.

The 2023 International Women’s Day is being celebrated under the theme DigitALL: Innovation and technology for gender equality.

“Today, a persistent gender gap in digital access keeps women from unlocking technology’s full potential. Their under representation in STEM education and careers remains a major barrier to their participation in tech design and governance. And the pervasive threat of online gender-based violence—coupled with a lack of legal recourse—too often forces them out of the digital spaces they do occupy.” UNwomen.org.

The event has two sessions – a workshop and a women’s celebration dinner – at an admission fee of $60. The first session kicks off at 4 pm and will feature a panel discussion and a Q&A session. Session facilitators are Prof Margaret Kamar, Prof Njoki Wane, and Wambui Essie of wakenyacanada. An allay of experts in various issues will also be in attendance. Women newcomers to Canada and survivors of gender-based violence are particularly urged to attend. Topics will include a look into the impact of COVID-19 on women and girls; gender equality gaps experienced during the pandemic; and skills and resources for COVID-19 recovery and resilience.

This March 8th [actual IWD], we are calling on governments, activists and the private sector alike to power on in their efforts to make the digital world safer, more inclusive and more equitable. Facing a multiplicity of global crises, we have a chance to create a better future—not just for women and girls, but for all humanity and all life on Earth. Join us.

This workshop is free for the first 50 women newcomers and GBV Survivors to register residing in Canada. Both the workshop and dinner registration is currently ongoing at https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/international-womens-day-workshop-celebration-dinner-tickets-550153402637

Thereafter a celebration dinner that includes speeches, music and dance will follow with chief guest, H.E. Pastor Dr. Dorcas Rigathi, the spouse of the Deputy President of the Republic of Kenya. Other expected guests expected include the Mayor of Brampton His Worship Patrick Brown, Kenya High Commissioner to Canada H.E. Amb. Immaculate Wambua; Kenya Honorary Consul in Toronto Mr. Sunir Chandaria; Canadian federal, provincial & municipal Government officials and corporate, community & religious leaders.
