For Kenyans, Jamhuri Day 2016 is shadowed by sadness over Naivasha tragedy
The pileup claimed the lives of 39 Kenyans.
Kenyans everywhere are celebrating this 53rd Jamhuri Day with a heavy heart and a shadow of sadness hanging over us.
On Saturday Dec 10, 2016, a tanker carrying inflammable material allegedly lost control, ramming into other cars at Karai on the Naivasha-Nakuru road.
The pileup claimed the lives of 39 Kenyans. On a day we should be celebrating Kenya’s independence, families of the deceased are identifying their dead relatives; while the families of those burnt beyond recognition will have to wait for DNA tests to be conducted.
The fatalities included 11 General Service Unit officers who were returning to Nairobi from duty with President Uhuru Kenyatta in Bomet.
There are many questions surrounding the accident. As we await answers, we pray for quick recovery for the injured and send condolences to the families & friends of the deceased. May the departed rest in peace.
We pray for our Motherland Kenya; that our beloved country may find peace this on this Jamhuri Day!
