Parliament back in session: Kick-starting slumping economy top priority
The Liberals have promised to spend $20 billion over the next two years on infrastructure.
The House of Commons resumes sitting Monday as the Trudeau government begins the daunting task of honouring its many campaign commitments.
The government has a long list of promises to keep, including climate change, electoral reform, health-care funding and doctor assisted death legislation.
But Government House leader Dominic LeBlanc doesn’t feel the Liberals bit off more than they can chew. He said Canadians can be confident the government will keep all the promises the Liberals made.
Perhaps the biggest priority for the current session is kick-starting the slumping economy.
The government is looking at speeding up the spending of infrastructure money from a fund set up under the previous government.
The Liberals have promised to spend $20 billion over the next two years on infrastructure.
Half of that figure was already budgeted by the Conservatives, but the government can dole out the remaining cash until the Liberals pass a budget.
