Pilot Alistair Llewelyn fired for assaulting woman cop

A company has terminated pilot Alistair Llewelyn’s services following his assault on a policewoman in Nyandarua county on Sunday.

Kwae Island Development, which had subcontracted the services of Llewelyn from Saker Resource Management, said it operates Helicopter 5Y-DSN.

The helicopter had been hired to transport DP William Ruto. While keeping a crowd away from it, the pilot pushed the police officer aside and shouted at her.

“KIDL regrets the unfortunate incident and distances itself from the actions of Llewelyn,” owner Marco Brighetti said in a statement on Tuesday.

“We have since terminated the agreement between Saker Resource Management and the pilot.”

He noted that the company respects the Kenya Police Service and abhors the pilot’s actions.

The pilot was captured in a video which was circulated on social media, grabbing the policewoman’s stick and insulting her before pushing her.

He could not be heard clearly due to the uproar from a surrounding crowd, but told the officer: “And then you will explain to the DP…”

The Deputy President’s office refuted reports that the pilot was one of his staff members as had earlier been reported.

National Assembly Majority leader Aden Duale said the Jubilee coalition and the DP respect the rule of law and police officers.

The Inspector General of Police ordered the immediate arrest of the pilot.
