Update: Mother of slain Ottawa teen Leslie Mwakio thanks fellow Kenyans for support
Last month, we published an article about a Gofundme appeal by a former mentor of Leslie Mwakio who was shot dead in a car in Ottawa on the night of December 6th, 2016. Andrew MacDonald was trying to raise money to send Leslie’s body back home to Kenya for burial.

We now we have an update (24 Dec) from Leslie’s Mother, Phillipina FwaKishau through facebook.com/wakenyacanada. She is thanking everyone that supported them in the effort during a very difficult time.
“On behalf of my daughter and I, I would like to thank everyone who tried to help us raise funds to take my son’s remains back to Taita Hills, Kenya. Much as several people made generous contributions, I realized that the target amount could not be met and storing the body in the funeral home $300.00 per day until the first week of January was going to have daily charges that were going to drain most of the funds raised so far. So, I evaluated the situation and decided to hold a burial service followed by a drive to Capital Crematorium at 3700 Prince of Wales. We will be receiving his ashes soon and when we are able to travel, we will bring his ashes with us to Kenya. Thank you all for caring and we will never forget the kindness and concern of my fellow Kenyans here in Ottawa, Toronto and others in the USA.” Phillipina FwaKishau
Our Condolences to you & your family Phillipina.
