Emma Wesonga Baraza death announcement

We are deeply saddened to announce the death of Emma Wesonga Baraza at St. Catharines General Hospital in Ontario, Canada. Emma was diagnosed with stage four pancreatic cancer in May 2023 and has been in and out of hospital since then until her passing on June 20, 2023.

Emma was a born-again Christian, whose love for God was evident in how she lived, touching lives with her kindness, selflessness and genuine love. She was hard-working, determined and focused, a treasure to anyone who met and interacted with her.

Emma was a nurse in Kenya and immigrated to Canada in 2018. She was a frontline worker during the Covid19 pandemic and worked tirelessly to save the lives of others. Even she wasn’t spared by the disease which she battled without her family by her side.

Emma was a loving wife to Njogu Kariuki, and mother to Ibrahim, Precious and Griffin. She was dedicated to have her family join her in Canada leading to Griffin and Precious coming here in 2022, Ibrahim arrived 3 weeks ago, while Emma’s husband only moved to Canada 2 weeks before his wife’s demise. In short, the family has yet to root themselves here and they immensely need both our prayers and financial support. We are humbly asking the community to help us raise funds to repatriate her body back to Kenya for a befitting farewell. Her youngest son is only 16 and in Grade 12. Some of the funds will be used to support her children as they start to navigate life in Canada without their mother.

There are a number of ways to give:

People in Canada can channel funds by E-transfer to Leila Betts, email [email protected]

For those in Kenya Mpesa to Margaret Migwi, phone number +254721475471

For everyone else, a GoFundMe account has been set up https://gofund.me/361a623a

Memorial and funeral dates will be announced later as plans materialize.

Proverbs 11:25 – A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.

We loved you, Emma. Rest in peace in the arms of the Father.
