Janet Mbugua death announcement
It is with tremendous sadness that we announce the sudden death of Janet Mbugua of Vancouver, British Columbia (B.C.) Canada.
Janet or mama Njeri as most of us knew her passed away on Friday January 29, 2016 en route to Vancouver after a three-week trip visiting her family in Kenya.
Janet travelled to Kenya with her close friends – Grace (Mama Njoki) and Ann (mama Miano). On the flight back to Vancouver, Janet collapsed and appeared to be having difficulty breathing. The airline personnel and some passengers in the medical field attended to her promptly and the plane was diverted to Edmonton. Upon arrival at the airport, Janet was received by paramedics who immediately intubated and transported her to Leduc Community Hospital in Edmonton. Ann accompanied Janet to the hospital while the rest, including Grace continued to their destination.
The emergency room doctors at Leduc Hospital attempted to resuscitate Janet but she unfortunately was pronounced dead on arrival. Doctors suspect her death was caused by a pulmonary embolism. However, an autopsy is still pending to confirm the actual cause of death.
Janet’s body is still at Leduc Hospital in Edmonton. Funeral plans are underway and a Gofundme account has been set up to raise money to help transport her body to Kenya. The link: https://www.gofundme.com/chmhzcm4
This was a shocking and traumatic end to what had been a much anticipated trip to Kenya to visit her children. Janet has lived in Canada since 2008 and this was her first trip to Kenya since then.
Many who met Janet will remember her warm smile and genuinely joyful personality. She was loved and will be missed by her children (all in Kenya) and her close friends.
A memorial service to honour Janet’s memory and raise needed funds will be held on Friday February 5th starting 7pm at the Umoja offices – 10025 Whalley Blvd in Surrey, BC.
Please continue to pray for and offer support to all who knew and loved Janet.
