An invitation to celebrate the life of Hellen Wendy Nyabuto on Sunday September 4, 2022.
A memorial service and viewing will be held at 535 Finch Ave West. North York, ON M2R 3X2 from 11am to 2pm.
23-year-old Hellen Wendy’s drowning death on August 18 was captured on a livestream video which she had set up beforehand.
Wendy came to Canada in 2018 as a student, and has worked as a personal support worker since 2020 and is being remembered as a “superhero” who helped Ontario long-term care homes through the pandemic.
According to friends, Wendy had just completed a shift at a long-term care home in Chatsworth, Ont. on Aug. 18 and had headed back to the motel where she was staying.
Nyabuto drowned in the motel pool, located just minutes away from the long-term care home where she worked.
A GoFundMe set up by Hellen’s brother says that Hellen was enjoying an afternoon swim when she died.
The crowdfunding campaign describes Hellen as being “full of life, with a warm smile and a charming heart… passionate about her work and she touched many hearts.”
Condolences to the family and friends of Hellen Wendy!
